"I’ve been a long time follower of AVFKW journey, but I never had the chance to work with their products. In fact, I hadn’t worked with a lot of naturally dyed yarns in the past, so I was really excited to be part of their yarn club. 

When I received this skein to work with, as I was opening the package I kept thinking it looked like old jeans…The indigo end of the skein fading towards the white end… It reminded me of faded old jeans, torn and fringed. And I liked the idea of making something with a fringe to recreate this effect.

I also wanted to make something wearable, useful. Shawls can be a bit small with just 1 skein of yarn, but I find I keep reaching out for my cowls to add a touch of flare and warmth to my neck on chilly summer evenings. And a 1 skein cowl is just perfect.

I got to work right away and I created a simple design to let the yarn do the work, showing off that beautiful indigo hue. The feather and fan pattern is really easy to make and it accentuates the variegation while keeping the work fun and rhythmic.

Joji designed the Fringed Denim Cowl using a skein of indigo-dyed Rumor created especially for her and this design.

The Fringed Denim Cowl starts with a provisional cast on, and is worked in one piece lengthwise, meaning that you can make it as long as you like, or you can use as much yarn as you have. The pattern alternates garter stitch with lace and eyelets, and is finished by adding playful tassels along each edge. 

Finished Measurements
9½“ (23.5 cm) wide and 46½” inches (116 cm) long loop.

Gauge
21 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) in garter st after blocking on US 6 (4 mm) needles
